Chapter Activities
EDUCATION

* Box Tops for DAR Supported Schools - collect Box Tops to fund school equipment for Kate Duncan Smith School (Alabama, founded 1924), and Tamassee School (South Carolina, founded 1919).

* DAR Supported Schools – Berry College (Georgia, founded 1902), The Crossnore School (North Carolina, founded 1900), Hillside School Inc., (Massachusetts, founded 1901), and Hindman Settlement School (Kentucky, founded 1902).

* NSDAR American Indians Committee – assists in the education of Indian youth through scholarships and support of Bacone College (Oklahoma) and Chemawa Indian School (Oregon). Good citizenship and love of country are taught at these schools.

* Local High School Seniors Scholarship Essay Contest and DAR Good Citizens Awards - with annual Awards Dinner

* NSDAR Scholarship Essay Contest and DAR Good Citizens Awards

* Monthly Guest Speakers Program - at meetings on the topics of education, patriotism, and preservation

* Monthly "Get to Know your Fellow Members" Mini Presentations - by members and prospective members

* Constitution Week - The tradition of celebrating Constitution Week was started many years ago by the DAR. In 1955 the DAR petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance.

* Library Genealogy Classes

* Public Outreach DAR Chapter Program – NEW! (before March)

* Indexing Workshop for the Chapter – NEW!

* Networking - school district and elected officials regarding local and national projects to raise awareness

* Establish and Support a Local N.S.C.A.R. Chapter - for boys and girls under 18 years of age

* Informative Monthly Chapter Presentations

* State and National Conferences - educate members about patriotism and historic preservation issues

* NSDAR Paging at Continental Congress – nominations are open to members who are age 18 – 30 years; essential to Continental Congress are its pages—young women who provide varied service throughout the week. Paging at Congress is an opportunity to help the National Society and also to form lifelong friendships. 

* Historical Book Drive - through the Teton County Library


VETERANS

* Veterans Day Celebration - Jackson Town Square with the American Legion

* Annual Veterans Dinner - hosted by Davey Jackson Chapter, NSDAR



PATRIOTISM

* Memorial Day Flag Ceremony - Jackson Town Square with the American Legion

* Service to America - Daughters contribute volunteer hours in the community

* DAR Project Patriot – national committee that supports America’s service personnel in current conflicts abroad. NSDAR focuses on: women in the military, supporting active duty military, and wounded military personnel. This program serves three facilities: the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany; Wounded Transition Brigade in Bethesda, Maryland; and Wounded Warrior and Family Support Center in San Antonio, Texas. Chapters are encouraged to adopt a platoon, send care packages, or even books and boots for ground troops.

* Holiday card writing - to active duty military in conflict areas

* Memorial Day Parade

* 4th of July Parade 


HISTORIC PRESERVATION

* Wyoming Lights the Way – state level project to raise $12,000 to replace lights on west side of the NSDAR Headquarters in Washington, D.C. - $8,000 raised as of July!

* DAR Patriot Records Project – there are two ongoing DAR Library projects that provide volunteer opportunities in genealogy: 1. Collect and index unpublished records; 2. Help create a master “Every Name Index” of each name in the 20,000 volume DAR Library collection.

* DAR Special Projects Grants Program – provides local community matching grant funding to support  projects exemplifying our mission areas of education, patriotism, and historic preservation.

The Davey Jackson Chapter, NSDAR, honored our local Jackson, Wyoming area veterans at a special dinner on October 9, 2016. The members of our chapter and their families prepared and served a spaghetti dinner to our veterans, their families, and friends.
